Professor Junhai Liu is a Professor of Law and Director of the Business Law Institute at Renmin University of China in Beijing. He holds Adjunct Professorships at Fellowship at four other Universities and Colleges. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Hebei University, Hobei Province, People’s Republic of China. He then obtained his LLM (magna cum laude) at the China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing and was awarded an SJD (magna cum laude) by the Chinese Acadamy of Social Sciences in 1995. He sat the National Bar Examination of China in 1990 and was Clerk, Court of Justice in Huairou Dsitrict, Beijing from 1989 to 1990.
Professor Liu is well known for his policy-related research, which has been undertaken for the National People’s Congress, the Supreme People’s Court, securities market regulators, stock exchanges and other organisations. In 2006, he was selected as one of the ‘Top Ten Excellent Young Jurists’ in China. He has published numerous books and articles in areas of business law and corporate law, both in Chinese and in English.
He has been a visiting scholar to law schools in the United States, Europe and New Zealand. He serves as the Vice Chairman of China Consumers’ Association and the Vice President of China Consumer Protection Law Society. Professor Liu also serves as an arbitrator for the China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission and a good number of international arbitration commissions.
